Adding Discounted Products

You can specify included products (products that can be discounted) or excluded products (products that are not eligible for a discount). For instance, when providing a discount on all Sony products with purchase price of $100 and over, you might want to exclude all Sony Plasma TVs from the discounted merchandise. All Sony products priced at $100 and over are the qualifying products, and all Sony plasma TVs are excluded from the promotion.

Excluded always takes precedence. For example, a category is set as included, but a product or brand within that category is excluded; the excluded product or brand will not get the promotion.

  1. Select site > Merchant Tools > Online Marketing > Promotions > promotion.
  2. On the Promotions page, enter or select the general promotion information.
  3. Specify a Product promotion and select a promotion type.
  4. Click Edit to specify discounted products.
You might need to deselect the Same as qualifying products check box.
  5. On the Product Include/Exclude window, specify the qualifier:
    Option Description
Category Select specific category from catalog tree (drop down under Value)
ID ID- select specific product IDs from drop down in Value
Brand Select specific brands from drop down in Value. The brand list is derived from the organization catalog. If there are multiple sites, brands from all sites will appear in this list.

Specify less than or equal to, greater than or equal to, or ends with in the Operator field, then specify a numeric value in Value field.

The ends with selection enables you to filter based on the digits of a price after a decimal separator (if there is one). For example, if a price ends with 88, it would match a product costing $2.88. This is useful if you identify sets of products by their ending digits, for example, 88. Products with this type of price ($75.88, for example) would receive a 40% discount.

ATS (available to sell) Specify less than or equal to or greater than or equal to in Operator field, then specify a numeric value in Value field. This field is only applicable when the application uses Salesforce B2C Commerce's inventory model.
Price Book Specify one or more price book IDs or select them from the price book panel. The price book panel lists all price books that have the same currency as the current site. This includes price books that are explicitly assigned to the site as well as price books that are activated based on source codes. You can page through the list of price books, and search for price books by price book ID and Name.
Product Option ID Specify the ID of a product option and set it equal to a value. For example, select Warranty and set it equal to 2 year warranty. If the product in the basket has this option selected, the product qualifies for the promotion. Any discount on the product line item in the cart includes a discount on the product option.
Custom attributes Specify the product attribute (of the System Product object) by which to qualify the purchased products. Only custom attributes of the system Product object are listed; and only of type String (including Enum and Set), Integer (including Enum and Set) and Boolean.
  6. Specify the Operator:
    Option Description
Category equals (or is a child of), is a child of, is direct child of, is parent of, is direct parent of, is sibling of - related to other categories in the catalog
ID equals, does not equal, starts with, contains, does not contain
Brand exists, does not exist, equals, does not equal, starts with, ends with, contains, does not contain
Price, ATS is less than or equals, is greater than of equals
Price Book storefront price in, price in
Product Option ID exists, does not exist, equals
Custom exists, does not exist, equals, does not equal, starts with, ends with, contains, does not contain (depending on the qualifier)
  7. Specify the value: Select from the drop down or make a specification. You can use a comma-separated list for category, brand and ID.
  8. Click Save.
The relationship between products, categories and shipping methods and promotions rules that include them is such that if you delete the product, category or shipping method associated with a promotion, that promotion (and its rule) will not be deleted.

Be aware of the difference between using the Add button to create another product exclusion and using the Add Exclude button. When you use the Add button, you are creating a logical AND statement. For example, exclude all products with brand Sony and price <= $300.00. When you use the Add Exclude button, you are creating a logical OR statement. For example, exclude all products of Sony or of price <=$300.00. This last statement would exclude all products that have a brand of Sony, as well as all products that have a price <=$300.
