Creating Order Promotion Rules

Order promotion rules apply against the entire order, for example, Special 20% off on all orders this week.
  1. Select site > Merchant Tools > Online Marketing > Promotions.
  2. On the Promotion List page, create or open a promotion.
  3. On the Promotions page, enter or select the general promotion information.
  4. Select Order as the promotion class.

For example, buy $50 worth of qualifying products in a shipment (for example, accessories) and get $15 off these products as a single, order-level adjustment.

For example, buy $50 worth of qualifying products (for example, footwear), and get 15% off your entire order, including products not in this category.

  5. Select a promotion type:
  6. Specify the Discount. You can tier these discounts (see Creating Tiered Discounts):
    • Percent off: Enter a value between 1 and 100. Applies to order total. You can configure discount precision for this discount.
    • Amount off: No currency symbols. Applies to order total.
    • Bonus products: Select the product. Applies to free products as line items.
    • Choice of bonus products (List): Select excluded and qualifying products.

This discount requires that you change your storefront application. See Implementing a Choice of Bonus Products Discount.

Applies to free products as line items.

    • Choice of bonus products (Rule): Select excluded, qualifying, and bonus choice products.

This discount requires that you change your storefront application. See Implementing a Choice of Bonus Products Discount.

Applies to free products as line items.

  7. If you use bonus promotions, decide if you want bonus items to appear immediately after their respective qualifying product, and if you want multiple bonus items from the same qualifying line item to be consolidated into one line item.
  8. To create a tiered discount, click Add under the discount section to add the following:
    • Buy three or more and get 30 Percent Off
    • Buy four or more and get 40 Percent Off
    • Buy five or more and get 50 Percent Off
  9. Click Edit to specify excluded products.
  10. Click Also exclude products or items that have received a product-level discount, if you want to make this exclusion.
This lets you exclude products from an order-level promotion when the shopper already received a discount from a product-level promotion. Entire SKUs or individual items will be excluded in the basket or order depending upon the Product Promotion Class Exclusivity preference value.
  11. Click Edit to specify qualifying products.
If this attribute is empty, all products in the order are considered qualifying. Otherwise, only those matching the product rule contribute toward the merchandise total.
  12. Select Discounted products same as qualifying products.
If checked, only the qualifying products receive the discount. If unchecked, or no qualifying products are defined, all non-excluded products in the order are discounted.
  13. If you are creating a promotion to allow an order discount based on payment method:
    1. Under Payment Methods, click Edit.
    2. On the Available Payment Methods window, select the payment methods to assign and click Save.
It isn't possible to create a payment method discount for the bonus products and choice of bonus products order promotion classes. This is the discount calculated when the order is placed, before bonus products are chosen.
Split payment methods can apply if the customer uses more than one of the qualifying payment methods.
To prevent payment method promotions from applying for split payment orders, contact Salesforce Customer Support.
  14. Select Alert if this is an approaching discount promotion, and then specify the amount the merchandise total must be within to trigger the condition.
  15. Click Apply.
