Creating Product Promotion Rules

Product promotion rules apply to standard products, variation products, product bundles, and product options. You can't create product promotion rules that apply to Salesforce B2C Commerce electronic gift certificates unless they're configured as a product with an SKU because they aren't considered merchandise. They don't apply to product sets, either, because product sets comprise separately orderable products.

For option products, the discount is applied to the base product plus the selected option price, regardless of the option selected. The discount is based on the product selected, and not on the option product selected. For example, if a Television (standard product) has product options of headphones and wireless headphones, you can't base the promotion on the customer's choice of headphones. If a product has options, the free discount is only applied to the product, and not to its options.

You can specify product rules for qualifying and discounted products that contain product attribute conditions.

You can create product shipping discounts for free or fixed-price shipping.

Maximum application is the number of times a promotion can be applied to one cart. Leave this field empty if there's no limit to the number of times the promotion can be applied to the cart.

If you're applying limits via rules, make sure you let your customers know by some kind of messaging. For example, if you limit free shipping to the first $200 of an order, spell it out to the customer that they shouldn't expect to get free shipping for an entire order of $400. This one step could save you many customer service calls.
