Qualifying and Discounted Products

With Salesforce B2C Commerce, you can define promotions that specify which products a customer must buy and in what quantity, known as qualifying products, to be eligible for a discount. You can also specify which products are eligible for the discount, known as discounted products.

Product type Promotion types Description
Qualifying Product, Order, Shipping These products must be specified for all conditional promotion rules, that is, promotions that require a purchase of a certain number or amount of products. For example, if a customer gets a 15% discount on all T-shirts of brand Cool Shirt, if they purchase two or more of these T-shirts, the Cool Shirt T-shirt is the qualifying product of this promotion. (In this case, the Cool Shirt T-shirt is also the discounted product.)
Discounted Product, Order These products can be specified for unconditional and conditional product promotions rules with % off, $ off, and fixed price product discounts. No discounted products are specified for product promotions with a bonus discount rule. Discounted products can be the same products as the qualifying products, as in the example Buy 2 T-Shirts, Get 1 T-Shirt 50% off or can differ from the qualifying products, as in the example Buy a DVD player and get 10% off any DVD purchases.

When specifying qualifying or discounted products, you can configure rules for including or excluding products based on product ID, category assignment, product, brand, price, price book, inventory and product attribute conditions. For example, you can exclude sandals from a footwear promotion.

Inventory-Based Include/Exclude Rules

To implement inventory-based include or exclude rules, you must also manage inventory within B2C Commerce, because the rule is based on the B2C Commerce available to sell (ATS) attribute.

Qualifying and Discounted Products Containing Product Attribute Conditions

You can configure product rules for qualifying and discounted products that contain product attribute conditions, via the condition type Attribute on the Promotion Rule window. (Other conditions types are Category, ID, Brand, Price, and ATS.) You can use this feature to target products based on attribute values. For example, $10 off necklaces where product 'length" is equal to 18 or 20 inches.

Localized Attributes

For localized attributes, the rule evaluation compares the condition values with all values of the product for this attribute, regardless of locale. For example, a condition 'color==green' targets products with attribute color(de_DE)=gruen and color(en_US)=green.

Including and Excluding Variation Products

You can include or exclude all variations of a specific product, or specific variations. When configuring qualifying and discounted product include and exclude rules, the following business rules apply:

If you want to... Then configure...
Include all variants of a master Include the product variation master OR all the variants
Include specific variants of a master, but not all variants

Include desired variants only

Note: If specific variants are included and the master is excluded, all variants are excluded.
Exclude all variants of a master Exclude the product variation master OR all the variants
Exclude specific variants of a master, but not all variants Exclude desired variants only

If an individual variant is part of the included or excluded products of a promotion product rule, this has no effect on any other variant or the master itself.

Product Sets As Qualifying Products

Product sets are not supported as product promotion qualifiers or discounted products. They are also not supported as qualifiers for shipping costs, shipping surcharges and shipping exclusions. Product sets don't appear in qualifier search results, though it's possible to add the ID of a product set manually. Promotion and shipping import logs a warning if a qualifier refers to a product set, but will not stop the import.

Example

Suppose you wanted to define a product promotion that applies a 30% discount as follows:

You would set up the following discounted products product rule:

Include products

Category equals Sweaters from site-catalog-en

Price < $40

Exclude products

Brand equals Premium Shirts

Price > $59

  ATS < 10
  ID equals SHIRT-19, SHIRT-26
