Configuring a Recommender for Product Recommendations

Before you can configure a recommender for product recommendations, you must make sure that an administrator has configured catalog and order feeds for you site. These feeds provide the Configurator tool with information you need to configure recommenders. You must also ensure that the administrator has set up an account for you to use the Configurator tool.

To configure a recommender, perform the following steps:

  1. In a web browser, go to https://configurator.cquotient.com.
  2. Log in to the Configurator tool using the credentials provided to you by your administrator.
  3. Click the Site Recommendations tab.
  4. Click New Recommender.

    The Create New Recommender dialog opens.

  5. From the Select Site... list, select your site.
  6. In the Choose a Recommender Type section, select one of the four recommender types.
  7. In the Recommender Name field, enter the name of the recommender, and click OK.

    The recommender name must be unique for the site. The name can contain letters, the hyphen (-) character, and the underscore (_) character. The length of the name must be less than 100 characters.

    When you click OK, the Create New Recommender dialog closes, and the Recommender Configuration page is opened.

    Note: The newly created recommender isn't saved at this point. It's saved later in this procedure when you click Save.
  8. (Optional) Click the General tab in the left pane, and enter values for the following fields:
    • Max # of Recommendations: specify an upper limit on the number of recommendations. This field might not be available in all cases.
    • Description of the Recommender: specify a description of the recommender.
  9. (Optional) Click the Strategies tab.

    The Strategies tab shows a table in which each row is a single strategy. The highest priority strategy is in the top row; the second highest strategy (if any) is in the second row, and so on.

    Note: This tab might not be available in all cases.
  10. (Optional) Click New Strategy to create a new strategy.

    A new row is created in the at the bottom of the table. You can select a strategy by choosing a value in the Strategy Name field and clicking OK.

    You can delete a strategy by clicking on its row in the table and then clicking Delete. Deleting strategies enables you to change the strategies used, and to change the order of strategies.

  11. (Optional) Click the Rules tab.

    The Rules tab shows an empty table that contains up to two columns:

    • If the shopper sees this: this column appears if you are creating rules for the Product to Product recommender type. This column enables you to specify an anchor field and anchor field value.
    • Recommend products according to the following criteria: this column appears for all recommender types. This column enables you to specify an action, field, and field value.
  12. (Optional) Click New Rule to create a new rule.

    A new row is created in the rule table. In this row, you can create a rule by selecting values for the following fields, and by clicking OK:

    • Select Anchor Field...: this field appears only for the Product to Product recommender type. The anchor field and the anchor value are compared to each recommended product returned by the recommender's strategies. If the recommended product's field value matches the value in the anchor field, the system applies the remainder of the rule and executes the specified action if appropriate. However, if you select Any Product as the anchor field, you can't specify an anchor value; in this case, all products are considered matches, causing the system to apply the remainder of the rule and, if appropriate, execute the specified action.
    • Select Anchor Value...: this field appears only for Product to Product recommender types, and it appears only after you select an anchor field whose value is something other than Any Product.
    • Select Action...: this field appears for all recommender types. It enables you to select a rule action (show, hide, promote, and demote).
    • Select Field...: this field appears for all recommender types. This field and its field values (that is, the field values you select in Select Values...) are compared to each recommended product returned by the recommender's strategies. If the recommended product's field matches the selected field values, the system executes the associated action.
    • Select Values...: this field appears for all recommender types. It enables you to specify one or more values for the field you selected in Select Field....

  13. In the upper right hand corner of the page, click Save to save your configuration.
Note:

If you click Cancel instead of Save, or if you leave the configuration page entirely, your changes are discarded.
