Managing and Creating Slot Configurations

Salesforce B2C Commerce scans all templates to identify where slots have been defined. The resulting list appears on the Content Slots page.

After a slot exists, you can create one or more content slot configurations for that slot.

Note: If you see no slots listed and no New button to create slot configurations, it means that a developer must add required <isslot> tags to the rendering templates in your cartridges. When B2C Commerce finds the slots, then slot configurations can be created for them. You can then click the slot name to get to the slot configuration page.

The processes and tasks involved in creating and managing content slot configurations are the same for global, category, and folder content slot configurations.

Note: These instructions also apply to modifying an existing slot configuration.
Note: Exceeding the 10 MB limit for slot content configurations is know to return an error exception.
  1. Select site > Merchant Tools > Online Marketing > Content Slots.

The category listing tree contains an Undefined Category Slots node for <isslot> tags with a context="category" in templates that are not defined as a rendering template for a category.

The folder listing tree contains an Undefined Folder Slots node for <isslot> tags with a context="folder" in templates that are not defined as a rendering template for a folder.

Template not found appears in red text for category and folder slots that do not have valid rendering templates.

A slot configuration that is marked as default for a category slot (or a folder slot) applies only to the category (or folder) for which it was defined.

The grids used for global slots and slot search prevent you from deselecting any of the grid columns. Grid column headers only support sorting.

  2. On the Content Slots page, click the Unreferenced Contents Slots link to delete content slots that are no longer used.
You can't create a slot configuration for an unreferenced content slot. See Removing Unreferenced Content Slots.
  3. Click the Unreferenced Slot Configurations link to view the slot configurations that are no longer valid because their context categories or folders no longer exist, or their related slots were removed.
    1. Select one or more unreferenced slot configurations.
    2. Click Delete Selected.
  4. Search for a slot by entering a Slot ID, Slot Description, Category ID, Category Name, Folder ID, or Folder Name in the Search field. By default, all items are checked and searchable.
Search is case-insensitive and supports wildcards (*). You can use special characters when searching for slot id and description.
  5. Click the Advanced button to filter your search by the following:
    • Scheduled date and time
    • Customer Groups
    • Active/Inactive
  6. Click the slot name link to view the list of slot configurations defined for that slot.
  7. Click the preview icon to see the slot in the storefront.
  8. On the Slot Configurations page, click the slot configuration name link to view details about that slot configuration.
You can specify up to 20 products per content slot.
  9. To schedule a slot configuration, click the Add Schedule button in the Schedule/Qualifiers/Compatibility section and select a schedule type.
Time conditions are always subject to time zone and daylight saving time considerations
To add a campaign or A/B test, navigate to the respective page and assign it there.
  10. To rank the slot, click in the Rank column.
The relative rank for a slot configuration indicates which slot appears when multiple slot configurations are scheduled. If multiple slot configurations are of equal rank, then the last edited one is used. The lower the rank, the higher the priority, for example, a slot configuration with a rank of 10 takes priority over one with a rank of 30.
  11. To create a new slot configuration, click New at the bottom of the Slot Configurations section (in the top pane).
See Configuring Slots for Product Recommendations if you are configuring a slot for product recommendations.
    1. In the Slot Configuration section (in the middle pane), enter the general information.
    2. Define the slot configuration.
    3. Schedule the slot configuration.
    4. Assign customer groups and rank.
    5. Click Apply to accept your changes.
  12. To copy a slot configuration, on the Content Slots page, click a Global slot ID link or expand a category or folder tree and click a category or folder slot ID link.
    1. On the slot Configurations page, use the search controls to find the content slot you want to copy.
    2. On the Slot Configurations page, click a slot configuration.
You can only copy one slot configuration at a time.
    3. Click Copy.
    4. On the window that opens, expand the trees and select one or more content slots.
    5. Click Select Current Slot and the current slot appears as selected in the tree.
Use this if you want to copy a slot configuration within the same content slot.
    6. Click Apply.
One or more new slot configurations are created, now located in the target content slots. They are named copied-from-slotconfigname-copied-to-contentslotname. For example, if you copy the 404-banner slot configuration to the home-main and home-test content slots, the new slot configurations are called 404-banner-home-main and 404-banner-home-test, located within the respective content slot.
