# Scenario: Returns on Closed Orders

In this scenario, one item from the Office Desk - Black line has been returned after the order was closed. The following table describes this as it appears in Customer Service Center:

Field(s) Calculation
Status The quantities of the returned item have changed as follows:
• Ordered, Allocated, and Shipped: These fields reflect the original order line item quantity of 2, which was originally allocated and shipped.
• Credited: This field now appears, with the credited quantity of 1.
Line item prices Recalculated based on the new unit quantity. The Orig. Unit Price and Unit Price remain the same. The Tax and Extended Price fields have both been reduced by half to reflect the credited amount for the returned item:
• Tax: Reduced from \$19.10 to \$9.55.
• Ext. Price: Reduced from \$318.38 to \$159.19.
• Credit Amt: Reflects the credited price of the returned quantity, \$159.19.
Line item promo price adjustment values Recalculated based on the credited amount. Certain fields have been reduced to reflect the credited quantity of 1:
• Orig. Unit Price: Remains at the original value of \$45.00.
• Unit Price: Reduced from \$45.00 to \$22.50.
• Tax: Reduced from \$2.70 to \$1.35.
• Ext. Price: Reduced from \$45.00 to \$22.50.
• Credit Amt: Reflects the portion of the price adjustment associated with the returned quantity, \$22.50.
Subtotal Recalculated considering the returned quantity. It is equal to the sum of the Ext. Price fields:

\$225.98 + \$126.99 + \$159.19 - \$22.50 (price adjustment) + \$173.19 = \$662.85

Price Adj. The original amount of the order-level price adjustment appears. Beneath it, in red, is the amount of the adjustment associated with the returned quantity. (The order-level price adjustment is considered to be prorated across all the line items by price.) The returned item has reduced the subtotal by 17.1%. 17.1% of the original order-level price adjustment is \$12.82. The total recalculated price adjustment of \$62.18 doesn't appear here.
Shipping In this case, there was no refund of the shipping charge, so the original charge of \$60.00 still appears. In some cases (such as the customer received a damaged or incorrect item), a portion of the shipping charge is credited back. The credited portion of the shipping charge appears here in red in parentheses beneath the original amount.
Tax The original tax amount of \$47.07 appears. Beneath it, in red in parentheses, is the amount of tax associated with the returned item, \$7.43. The total recalculated tax of \$39.64 doesn't appear here.
(USD) Total Recalculated based on the new amounts as follows:

subtotal - price adjustment + shipping charge + tax

In this example, the total is the subtotal of \$662.85, minus the price adjustment of \$62.18, plus the shipping charge of \$60.00, plus the tax of \$39.64, for a total of \$700.31.
