Manage Localization for a Page Designer Page

When adding a page in Page Designer, a best practice is to create it in your base language, typically default. When you create the page, a variant of the page is added for each locale in the fallback hierarchy defined in Business Manager. You can then use the page variants to localize components for each locale as needed.

For example, if you create a page in the default locale, and the fallback hierarchy for Canadian French is fr_CA > fr > default, page variants for fr_CA and fr are also created. For each of these page variants, you can localize content at the component level, or you can let the content for a component display according to the fallback hierarchy. If you provide localized Canadian French text or images for a component on the Canadian French (fr_CA) page variant, that content is displayed on the Canadian French page. If you don't provide localized content for the Canadian French page, the page uses the contents of the component in the next locale in the fallback hierarchy, which in this case is the French (fr) page variant. If the component is not localized on the French page, the component displays the contents of the component in the next locale in the fallback hierarchy, in this case, the default locale.
  1. From the visual editor, open the Page Designer page.
  2. Select the locale from the top drop-down menu.
The page banner displays the fallback hierarchy for the locale. As you move your mouse over each component on the page, components that have no localized content are surrounded by a pink box and labeled Fallback, indicating that the content displays according to the fallback hierarchy. Components localized for the locale are surrounded by a blue box.
  3. Select the component that you want to localize, and in the right pane, change the text or images, and then click Save.
The localized component is now surrounded by a blue box.
  4. To delete the localized component and use content from the fallback hierarchy, select Revert to fallback from the drop-down menu next to the name of the component in the right pane.
Reverting to fallback permanently deletes the localized version of the component.
  5. To hide or show the page for this locale, select either Visible for this locale or Hidden for this locale and then toggle the Page Visible for this Locale setting to Visible or Hidden.
By default, a page is visible for every supported locale.
  6. To change the name, description, and other page settings for this locale, click the Page Settings icon, make your changes, and click Save.Icon that opens Page Settings window.
