You can localize a custom attribute and its associated choice
values into selected languages/locales using the Attribute Manager in the
Administration module. Steps for each are described in this
topic.
Note: If the attribute and values are not configured in the
Attribute Manager, you can add them. See
Custom
Attributes for steps to add the attributes.
To localize custom attributes, follow these
steps:
- In the Main accordion menu in the Administration module,
select Settings and then Attributes. The Attributes
Manager page appears.
- From the Group Attribute list, click a custom attribute
group, such as Item, and then select an attribute, such as 'ladies
dress'. The Edit Legacy Attribute Information page appears with
the fields populated.
- In the Localizations section, select the language from the
Localization Code drop-down list and click Add. The
language appears in the Localizations section. For
example, you could select French - France. (Use the trash can icon
to delete the language, if
desired.)Note: Available languages are pre-configured in
Settings
> Preferences > General tab > Localizations in the
Administration module. See
Configuring
Lcalization.
- Click on the language's link in the Localizations section.
The Edit Attribute Localized Detail page appears with the
Label, Label Short, and Description fields
populated in the pre-configured base locale.
- Enter the localized text in the Label, Label Short,
and Description fields.
- Click Save to save the changes, or click Cancel to
discard the changes.
- Repeat this step to localize the attribute in each language.
To localize the Choice Values, follow these steps:
The
list of choice values appears in the Choice Values section.
Note: The list of choice values appears in the Choice Values
section. If no choice values exist, you can add them individually. The
Choice Values option must be selected in the Configuration
Type field on the Attribute configuration details page to show the
Choice Values section.
- Click the link for a choice value, such as Red. The Edit Value
Information page appears with all fields populated in the
pre-configured base locale.
- Enter localized text in the Label, Label Short
fields.
- Click the language and locale, such as French – France, from
the Localization Code drop-down list.
- Click Add. The selected language appears in the
Localizations section.
Note: Use the trash can icon

to delete the language, if desired.
- Click on the language's link in the Localizations section.
The Edit Attribute Localized Detail page appears with the
Label, Label Short, and Description fields
populated in the pre-configured base locale.
- Enter the localized text in the Label, Label Short,
and Description fields for the choice value.
- Click Save to save the changes or Cancel to discard
the changes.
- Repeat this step to localize the attribute choice values in each
language.

Scenario – Localize Attributes in Fulfillment
Center |
A shipping order was in Waiting Fulfillment status and
the France-based Fulfillment site associate needs to pick the
item (a red dress), print the pack sheet, and ship it to a
German customer. The Fulfillment site associate needs to read
the item attribute (Ladies Dress) and choice value (Red) in
French on the pick sheet to be sure it's a red dress while the
pack sheet and shipping label is printed in German for the
German customer. |
Action |
The Fulfillment site associate in France performs these
steps to pick the red dress from inventory reading the pick
sheet in French, because the attribute name (Ladies Dress) and the
choice value (Red) have been localized into French.
- Log into Customer Service Center using the user profile,
which is localized in French.
- From the Fulfillment Center Home page, click Pick
Station. A list of Open Picking Orders is listed.
- Search and locate the order. The item attribute and
choice value (attribute=dress and choice value=red) are
localized in French on the pick sheet.
- Perform steps to scan the location tag and pick the
Item.
- Print the pack sheet, which is in German for the
customer.
- Pack and ship to the customer.

Scenario – Localized Attribute in Customer Service
Center |
A customer in France called to request an even swap of an
item purchased recently on the merchant’s website. The customer
wanted to swap the red linen dress from size 10 to size 12. The
German Customer Service Representative, who is using the user
account localized in German, needs to locate the customer record
and the sales order, which has not yet been fulfilled, and then
swap the size of the dress. The attribute (ladies dress) and the
choice values (color and size) are localized and appear in
German. The email confirmation is sent to the customer with
the attribute information shown in French. |
Action |
The Customer Service Representative needs to perform the
following steps to swap the dress for a different size.
- Log into Customer Service Center using the user profile,
which is localized in German.
- Search and locate the order.
- Perform steps to swap the dress size. Note that
selecting the attribute (ladies dress) and the choice values
(color and size) appear in German.
- Complete steps to process the order.
- Send an email confirmation to the customer, which will
be localized in French.
